Acacia Anointing Oil

God instructed Moses to build the Ark and other Tabernacle furnishings using Acacia Wood. (Ex 25:5, 26:15, 32,37)It grows in the deserts of Sinai and southern Palestine.

It is adorned with lovely yellow flowers, whilst the wood is hard, very heavy and virtually indestructible by insects.

The Greek word acantha means spine, thorn or prickle and the Hebrew Shittah means the sticks of wood and refers to its scourging thorns. Jesus was scourged and pierced for our transgressions. As we approach the presence of God, we need to come to the seat of God, the feet of Jesus and repent of our transgressions for which He bore our sins.

There we are to be perfected in the image of Christ, leaving behind the old, hard sinful ways and enter into His promise for us.

2 Cor 5:21 And as the Acacia wood was overlaid with Gold, we are “overlaid” with God’s righteousness and sinful nature is hidden in Christ.

Just as the tree often assumes a characteristic umbrella-like form, we are reminded how God covers our sins on the Mercy Seat, when we abide in Christ.
