God IS love (agapos) – 1 John 4.  It’s part of His character, and as Christians we are exhorted to love like Him (Matthew 22:36-39). The ultimate demonstration of God’s love for us is Jesus’s sacrifice on the cross (John 15:13).

Agape is not based on feelings, but it comes from the will and is a choice. It is sacrificial, not self seeking, nor does it come from a sense of duty or obligation. It requires faithfulness, commitment, and sacrifice without expecting anything in return.  1 Cor 13 is to be our standard for demonstrating  Agape love.
